SOS // Apply Now for an Apprenticeship at Son of a Sailor!

Attention, Austin gals! Do you enjoy learning new skills, and working with your hands? Are you interested in starting your own creative business someday? Have you visited Son of a Sailor, only to be charmed by our sparkling personalities and beautiful goods?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you should apply for an apprenticeship with us!
We're looking for apprentices for both jewelry and accessories production. Full descriptions of both of these roles are listed on GirlsGuild, an Austin based organization that matches girls and women with makers, in an old-school apprenticeship format. GirlsGuild describes apprenticeships like ours as more hands-on than a “mentorship,” and more equitable than an “internship.” It's a collaborative way to trade knowledge and skills for help with making. We've had wonderful experiences with our past apprentices, and look forward to finding our new team member!

Jewelry Production ApprenticeshipAccessories Production Apprenticeship

As an apprentice, your position will focus on the prep work for the production of our line of jewelry and accessories. You don't need to be a pro to apply, since we'll teach you the basic techniques you'll need (that includes assemblage and beading, leather work, hand-painting, and metal stamping.) You'll also see what goes on behind the scenes at a small business!
