Three Links We Love

The Weekly Link Harvest, y'all

/ Newport Folk Festival via NPR //

The fine folks of NPR have our back with these brilliant recordings of performances at the Newport Folk Festival that were recorded last weekend. Check out shows from the likes of Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis, Jeff Tweedy, and Berklee Gospel & Roots Choir.

This essay is a reprint of writer Hilton Als' Columbia School of the Arts commencement speech in May. It's a poignant, strong, and bittersweet piece on the importance of memory to an artist. Als is a writer and theater critic for The New Yorker and previous editor-at-large of Vibe magazine.

It was via Frankie magazine that we heard about this INSANELY COOL thing that is kinda making our Friday so far. It's simple: pick a year (a late childhood or early teen year for more fun) and this site gives you all the jams for that year. We picked, randomly, 1991, and the first two hits that came up were Bryan Adam's "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" and Color Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up." Remember those? Kinda??
