TRAVEL // WE WENT TO THERE: Austin Breakfast Tacos

For those who have very little idea of what Austin, Texas is about, they might want to know these two words first: 1) breakfast 2) tacos. From the New York Times to the mostly food-driven Buzzfeed list, breakfast tacos are usually the first thing mentioned. Back in 2006, before the omnipresence of Yelp and other review sites, two dedicated, determined taco lovers started Taco Journalism, a blog to review every possibly nook and cranny of breakfast taco culture.  From the trademark Austin joints to the taco trucks that pop up along East 6th, bloggers Jarod Neece and Mando Rayo rate them all from a range of 1 to 5 “stars,” “estars,” or “estrellas” (depending on the blog post).

They just published a book this spring: “Austin Breakfast Tacos: The Story of the Most Important Taco of the Day”. Written in their signature casual, Spanglish-y style, the book features interviews with Austin culinary celebrities Paul Qui and Aaron Franklin. You can buy the book online or in person at Book People on Lamar!
